Zara Murphy is a proud queer woman, mother and advocate for survivors of high-control religion in Oamaru, Aotearoa New Zealand, where she runs a peer support group for cult survivors. Raised as a Jehovah’s Witness, she experienced sexual assault, shunning and coercive control before finally leaving the organisation with her family and rebuilding her life on her terms. As a helpline agent for Recovering from Religion, she now supports others navigating the process of questioning ingrained beliefs, reclaiming autonomy and developing critical thinking.
