Born in apartheid-era South Africa, Sam Featherstone came of age under two totalist systems: a Christian-nationalist state and a small fundamentalist Christadelphian group awaiting Armageddon. In response to the global rise of religious nationalism, she is writing a coming-of-age memoir about extricating herself from the Christadelphians. Sam is now based in Aotearoa New Zealand.
What happens when religious dogma, misogyny and far-right ideology are weaponised through coercive control? This powerful panel examines the growing influence of Christian nationalism and trad-wife culture through the eyes of women who have left Mormonism, the Christaldelphians and the Black Church. Their lived experience is a rallying cry against political influence that impacts on gender roles.
