Debbs Murray

Family violence specialist

Debbs Murray draws on lived experience of family and sexual violence, alongside deep practice knowledge, to advocate for the criminalisation of coercive control in Aotearoa New Zealand. With more than 25 years in the family violence sector – including NGO leadership, specialist roles with New Zealand Police, and work on family violence death reviews – she is committed to creating accountability for the patterns of domination, isolation and surveillance seen in both family violence and cult settings. Debbs was recently appointed Chair of the Family and Sexual Violence Ministerial Advisory Group and holds qualifications in psychology.
