Cara Cordoni

Film producer & survivor advocate (online speaker)

Cara Cordoni is a cooperative developer, film producer and survivor advocate. A former participant in the International School of Temple Arts (ISTA) — an organisation critics describe as a harmful cult — she now speaks openly about her experience and supports others in naming and recovering from theirs. She co-founded 3SC (Safer Sex-Positive & Spiritual Communities), through which survivors gathered more than fifty firsthand accounts of harm and pressed ISTA for accountability and reform. She hosts the podcast Fool’s Gold: Discernment in the Age of Grift, facilitates a survivor support group, and offers peer support to those recovering from coercion and spiritual abuse.

Reforming ISTA or Fighting it: Activist Perspectives

Two former participants in the International School of Temple Arts (ISTA) who became activists after learning of widespread reports of harm within the organization trace their path into advocacy: building support for survivors, engaging journalists and researchers, and attempting restorative dialogue with ISTA’s leadership. They speak candidly about the personal cost of speaking out, including an active lawsuit.
