Amanda Morgan

Lawyer & Indigenous justice researcher

Amanda Morgan (BPsych, LLB) is a sovereign Indigenous woman with family connections to Yorta Yorta country. A lawyer and PhD candidate, her research explores the intersection of Indigenous justice pedagogies, trauma and systems theory across the experiences of victim-survivors, Elders and lawyers. In 2025 she travelled to eight countries studying trauma-informed legal processes for historically underserved survivors of violence. Amanda co-authored the National Clinical and Therapeutic Framework for Harmful Sexual Behaviour and leads research on the Australian Research Council project ‘Voices, Listening and Law and Policy Reform on Violence Against Women’. She currently advises Domestic Violence NSW, and has previously advised the National Office for Child Safety and the Australian Human Rights Commission’s Anti-Racism Commissioner.

Indigenous Perspectives: The Colonising-to-Cults Pipeline

What happens when evangelical groups intersect with Indigenous culture and target specific communities? Whistleblowers from Destiny Church, a Gloriavale leaver and a survivor of a fundamentalist Baptist church explore their experiences of belonging, authority and abuse. Bringing together Māori and Aboriginal perspectives, they look at what the mainstream can miss about cults and coercive control when Indigenous histories and colonisation are not part of the conversation.
